A low-pressure system over Western Europe will intensify and extend into the central Mediterranean by midweek, leading to the development of an additional low over the Gulf of Genoa. Throughout this period, the Alps will remain under a persistent southerly flow, which will cause very moist Mediterranean air to accumulate on the southern side of the Alps. Meanwhile, on the northern side, there will be continuous strong, and at times stormy, southerly föhn winds.
Along the main Alpine ridge, further light to moderately heavy precipitation is expected, which may intensify from Thursday to Friday. The snow line will consistently remain above 2000 meters above sea level. At the same time, some precipitation may briefly spill over the main Alpine ridge to the north. Nevertheless, significant precipitation is still not expected on the northern side of the Alps. Here, the clouds will tend to break up more frequently due to the föhn, allowing the sun to shine for longer periods. From Friday onwards, the southerly flow will generally weaken, and the weather is likely to calm down somewhat. Overall, however, the weather will remain unchanged: föhn-influenced, changeable, and very mild.
